About APSCB and what to expect

ABOUT THE BOARD

Standards for professional competence.

The American Professional Skills Certification Board (APSCB) is an independent certification board with a mandate to define, assess, and verify professional competence across career sectors.

THE BOARD

Independent certification. Defined requirements.

APSCB’s role is to establish clear requirements for professional credentials and assess candidates against those requirements. The Board’s framework connects a defined scope of practice with the knowledge, practical performance, and evidence relevant to each credential.

Certification is a distinct function from training. A course, school, employer, or candidate does not determine an APSCB certification outcome.

ASSESSMENT FRAMEWORK

Competence must be demonstrated.

APSCB’s framework specifies the eligibility criteria and assessment requirements for each credential. Depending on its scope, an assessment may examine professional knowledge, practical performance, and supporting evidence. Certification decisions are based on the stated requirements for that credential.

Before registration opens for a credential, APSCB will publish its scope, eligibility criteria, assessment format, decision rules, candidate requirements, and applicable fees.

IMPARTIALITY & FAIRNESS

Consistent rules. Clear review routes.

Certification requirements apply to candidates consistently, regardless of where they trained. Conflicts of interest must be identified and managed, and certification decisions must be supported by documented evidence.

Candidate materials will explain accommodations, complaints, reassessment, and appeals before registration opens.

SCOPE & RECOGNITION

Certification scope across four professional sectors.

APSCB’s scope spans Beauty & Personal Care, Healthcare Support, Hospitality, and Business. Healthcare support areas include Patient Care, Phlebotomy, and EKG / ECG.

Each credential has a distinct purpose and published requirements. An APSCB credential records achievement against those requirements; it does not, by itself, grant a professional licence or guarantee acceptance for employment, further study, migration, or licensing. Candidates should confirm the requirements of any organisation that will receive or rely on a credential.
